Portuguese Nationality

Portuguese citizens' children and grandchildren have the right to obtain Portuguese Nationality. Law 37/81, altered by Laws 25/95 and 2/06, known as the Portuguese Nationality Law, guarantees the nationality transmission in two modalities: original and derived.

By the original modality direct children may indefinitely transmit the nationality. The Portuguese legislation declares that the document able to prove the nationality is the birth certificate of the Portuguese ancestor. In case the descendant does not have the documentation, our team in Portugal is apt to resolve this and other issues.

Even in case of death it is possible for the grandchildren to obtain the nationality, by means of the derived modality, from their grandparents, becoming Portuguese citizens with all inherent rights.
