Portuguese citizens' children and grandchildren have the right to obtain Portuguese Nationality. Law 37/81, altered by Laws 25/95 and 2/06, known as the Portuguese Nationality Law, guarantees the nationality transmission in two modalities: original and derived.
Even in case of death it is possible for the grandchildren to obtain the nationality, by means of the derived modality, from their grandparents, becoming Portuguese citizens with all inherent rights.
Wives of Portuguese citizens married before 1981 may also obtain Portuguese Nationality, with the same rights as a direct descendant from Portuguese people.
